Br9mp81
had a news feed come up on my steam powered phone this evening, kent have come to the end of contract cover for the chunnel. does this mean no special fire cover,or just whats on kents books from now on. or has it gone to contract, given the number of cowboy cover companies that could be a worry Link to comment
OscarTango
Definitely an end of an era for us, operating one of the most unique fire stations and appliances in the world, for over 30 years. For now the staff will be switched over under TUPE regulations which if I remember rightly protects your Ts an Cs for two years. All rather reminiscent of the DFRMO privatisation a few years ago. For reasons so far unknown to the rank and file, it's costing us more than Eurotunnel were willing to pay, so the contract will be terminated next year. Funny enough the French side is privately run and not a State agency as is the case here. So they may well take over fire provision for both ends, Eurotunnel do it themselves in house, or they tender out to the Sercos/Capitas/Falcks out there.... 1 Link to comment

OscarTango
For another year they are still with us. It was a factor in recruitment decisions wether we would have to reabsorb the Chunnel staff back onto normal stations but looks like that won't be the case. Link to comment
Luminoki
Were the crew seconded to the chunnel from KFRS or did Kent have a hand in training/equipment etc. Is/was crewing it a bit like LFBs river station, big transfer list for the unique aspect of the station? Link to comment
