Surrey Fleet

Recommended Posts

Thats certainly a comprehensive list of vehicles and kit. Im sure many will be keeping that on their hard drive ;)

Im not sure of any other service which creates such a list, we certainly don't as far as I am aware. Im sure @Matt will be interested in this list, if he does not already have it ;)

Must say, having facilitated one of the cross border training days at Godstone the other week......I want a Unimog! Using the hook as a line ops anchor point throws up some fun possibilities!

Dyson ..most of the fleet are godiva 2010 pumps I.e. rated at 2000l at 10 bar however the 4010 pumps support larger capacity pumping for things like hvp support  ( can pump 6800lpm top end ) and alp and wildfire pumping.

In my opinion we should have the whole fleet as 4010! Have argued this at many meetings, had to settle for the future being 3010s, I'm sure most pumping appliances around the UK are rated 2010.

The 1 st two phases of scanias have cafs on-board, the latest has nozzle aspirated foam  system.(nafs )

Sorry for geekynes but I was responsible for the introduction of cafs into the service and anyone who knows me knows i like my pumps, (percy will confrm this )infact if you ever get turned out where im involved you can bet there will be an element of pumps involved, quite important in my view to at least understand whats happening and how to operate them correctly for ff safety.

I'm also pretty vocal to get flow rate meters put on pumps rather than pressure, if you want to know why i feel this important read the likes of Grimwood.

Supernova, the Unimogs where mine as well - moved from the cafs project onto the mogs, I love them, great kit.

GMFRS have had Flow Meters for years now, in fact I bet its going on for 10 years. Makes a world of difference with the right branches etc.

Good to hear Carl, I wish more fleet engineers would listen.

Set the flow rate at max rate of the branch from a fixed supply..eg not into eye of the pump, hey Presto the branch operator is in charge of his or her destiny, not the pump operator outside.

Thanks @Carl!!

It is interesting to see how Brigades very with their spec and what they carry these days.  It's also handy to have such document for preservation of appliances later on in life so they can be kitted back to what they were at the era they want to be preserved at.  Years ago it was quite easy to do but now as equipment is so different and varied as to what is carried it does make preservation easier (now saved for future reference!).

I've had a quick flick through but didn't realise there was such a selection of vehicle types down there, it''s quite a detailed document from what I've seen although not read it fully yet.

Now that is a fleet list !!

Quite rightly you have taken the crown from Merseyside for having gucci kit

Although jet ski's aren't on the list !!

Mind you you Surrey lot can afford it - richest county in England and all that. Aren'r there 2 or 3 'estates' that make more money for the Chancellor than the entire 10 combined councils of Greater Manchester ??

Captain, the residents may be well off, but we as a service although having a modern fleet, are I believe nearly the highest in terms of %cuts with more to come !

We're not in a good place!

However The fleet and equipment is someway due to our chief insisting we have what he considers the best and driving some really good deals. Oh there's a couple missing from that list..the prevention team and dog handlers.

Trialling an i3 for response !

One thing I was surprised by is that you're still using manual entry control boards, no telemetry boards yet? Any plans to go that way?

And if you're using the i3, enjoy the latest disease to hit the LFB - range anxiety! Are you using the latest model of i3? The 2016 model that has battery of about 130-140 miles?

I would be very grateful if you could give me some more information on your high end 4010 lts pumps, who makes them and the type of pump etc,  please pm me if need be.

At the end of the day I need a uk pump that hits NFPA (US) outputs.

I'm green with envy.... a proper well considered fleet that shames LFB's 'one size fits all' debacle. Apart from coastal and mountain risk, we have arguably the most diverse risk in the World, 1000 ft buildings to 1000 year old castles. an abundance of World heritage sites, a significant part of the busiest motorway in Europe, several road tunnels, mainline transport hubs and the oldest (and within top 5 busiest/most complex) underground railway systems. Shipping risks, industrial and petro-chemical risks, some of the most densely populated and poorest residential areas in the Western World, significant open, common and rural land fire risks The busiest airspace with one of the busiest airports in the World. A global financial and business hub, the most terrorist rich area and reputational risk because of London's World City status. Most have some, more or less of the above, we have it all.

Yet we are expected to manage that with the same pumps across the 103 stations, one type of rescue truck two types of aerial (the third isn't worth mentioning) and a handful of other specialist vehicles. Imagine what we could do with a fleet like Surrey has. ¬¬

I'm going to pass that onto those responsible for the LFB fleet and ask a simple WHY?

Supernova..simple answer yes - moving towards telemetry, i personally think the reason for not being there yet was allowing for all the niggles etc to be ironed out by others, and as we are now moving toward ppv aggressively rather than just smoke clearance it would seem sense.

It's a2017 registered i3 so I suppose so !

Steve, I've often wondered that of yr fleet, crazy it's like having half a tool box with limited tools  - admittedly lots of workers to use the tools - and the complication of a commercial entity in charge of yr fleet maybe?

You certainly have the diverse risk which is not matched by the one size fits all approach.

I'm sure when you ask the question the main response will be ££.

Becile what distinction is there between the MRV and the MRV with the fogging system? The way the list is laid out it only seems to go into detail about the fogging system.

Are the ones without essentially a flatbed 100 that can be loaded with whatever is needed?

Link to comment

Oscar, correct, all the other Mrvs are empty and can be loaded with whatever you like..hose , rtc  equipment etc etc, we also have some spare "sleds"  that can convert them to firefighting Mrvs at workshops.

All we need now is enough people to crew them

Link to comment

Becile, you mentioning PPV - I see some of your crews are often at Rushmoor training with them with Tac Vent etc. Was this related to the move to aggressive PPV or just familiarisation with how OTB crews work?
