Viola
I saw this story from a couple of years ago. Firefighters Learn Sign Language about Yorkshire firefighters learning some basic signs to help in an emergency. Does anyone know whether it went further? Have other places tried it? Anyone want to opine on whether it's needed/a waste of time? Link to comment
Becile
We have a few staff who do sign language, its certainly not wasted. Needed- You could ask the same for foreign languages, which we have catered for on our MDT with stock phrases, Ive also used google translate at a job to ask some pertinent questions. If it saves a life id say yes. Believe the union does a signing course. Link to comment
Viola
I'd read elsewhere that the union do a course but I can't find any trace of it on the website (assuming I'm looking in the right place), which made me wonder whether it was an initiative that was no longer thought to be worth the time expended. AJ81
Unfortunately, due to the government’s decision to discontinue Union Learn funding, we are no longer able to operate our lifelong learning centre and courses Edited January 9, 2022 by Carl Quote removed as it is a quote of the previous post.
