Popular Post Daniel19
I apologise if this is a bit long or badly written as I'm writing it on my phone. Over 3 years ago, at the age of 18 I started my journey with the fire service. Having had my heart set on joing the parachute regiment from a young age, I'd never even considered becoming a firefighter until I saw an add for my home service recruiting wholetime. I decided to apply but fell at the very first hurdle. I decided to do some research into the fire service and I realised that this could be for me. So I joined on call a few months later and completely fell in love with the job. I continued to apply to every service I could but kept failing the online stage. On my 4th attempt I finally made it passed the online stage and got all the way to interview with Lincolnshire. However the next day I was told my application was not being progressed and that was the end of that. I continued trying and applied a further 6 times to other services and even started looking at aviation firefighter jobs but never had any luck at all, sometimes I got as far as interviews, other times I didnt. A few months ago I sat down with my station manager (who has supported me massively In all this) and spoke about how it might be time to accept that it's just not meant to be, and maybe while I'm still young join the military or pursue something else. Just a few days after that conversation I received a phone call from Lincolnshire saying that in my interview I came very close but not in the very top. They said they're having another recruits course in march and asked if I'd like to be on it. Today I recieved my unconditional offer of employment having passed all the pre employment checks. To say I'm happy is an understatement. My advice to anyone going through the pain staking process of becoming a firefighter is as simple as this. Don't give up. Dont let all the failed attempts get inside your head, you might just be one more application away. 12 4 Link to comment
