OMG!

I would simply report it as stolen and then while we were searching for it, we found it burnt out in a field. :)

One of yours @Becile? If not, name names - where was this?

Looks like it's from somehwere in Europe, French maybe? as @Becile says, work from the black stuff and spray under and around your truck so you don't set the field on fire yourself 😀

Oops.

Would be interesting to know the full story as the fire doesn’t look, from that limited video, to be running particularly fast. Did the truck itself cause the fire or just get stuck.

Out of interest, do any UK services have vehicles that can pump and drive? We fight many grass fires from the deck of our tankers while they are underway. The pump is run from a separate motor to the truck. We also have burnover sprinkler systems.

Skip to 2:10 ish to see a running grass attack. Some work is done from a cab-operated Monitor, some from firefighters operating branches on the rear deck.

burnover Drill - Skip to 1:15

stay safe everyone.

It was 1976, four L4Ps were working the perimeter of a large mountain fire above Bryneglwys. One was coming down the fire break at dawn when it slipped 2 wheels into a gully and turned onto it's side. A second L4P was sent to pull it out, that anchored itself to a tree in the bracken and started to winch the first one upright.

Instead of moving the 1st one, L4P two dug itself into the peat, all the time using more and more engine revs in the attempt.     Then someone noticed the smoke, then the flames and soon they were both burnt out.

The Transport Officer discovered 2 brand new L4Ps were for sale by their manufacturer in Worcester and they were working at Bryneglwys at the end of the same day.

No-one was disciplined, that was a time when doing your best was considered good enough.

@DRMS3934 The regular appliances that we run with in the UK all have pumps that are driven via a PTO so cannot be used whilst driving the appliance.

Purpose built wildfire vehicles are becoming more common in high risk areas which have bumper turrets and spray systems built in that are powered by LPP’s.

It amazes me that most are not told about the risks of setting fire to the very field they are attempting to extinguish due to their own pumps. We use a hose reel to damp the area under our truck if we have to drive on the field. Otherwise we just try and contain and make Land Rovers plenty!

@DRMS3934 we run 4 specially built wildfire unimogs with pump and roll facility, roof monitors and side deliveries, also our landrovers have twin fire fog sytems that can be clipped to the body of the vehicle or used without being outside on foot.

Thank you both, that’s interesting to know.
