Popular Post Daniel. Posted July 30, 2018 Popular Post Posted July 30, 2018 I’VE MADE IT! So I’ve been successful on my second attempt joining the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve got to say a massive thank you to @Carl for setting up this forum and everyone else on helping me out with all the aspects of the process, without this forum I don’t think I would’ve got anywhere near passing! It started early this year when I spent 2 full weeks completing the application process. I was racking my brains to think of the best examples to use for my PQA’s and on the closing day I sent it off after having as many people as possible read over it. I was then successful and went on to the physical assessments, I naively thought training last second would be enough and failed on the bleep test at 8.6 and I was gutted. I came back to the next physical day the recruitment run after doing as much cardio trainings as possible on top of my weight training and passed along side 5 others on my day. Then the real challenge began for the interviews... I started revising straight away, going over all the values and behaviours of the service and practicing with examples from my life with anyone that would sit and listen to me or even on my own (you might sound crazy but it helps). I also researched the service and had on-station experience from my time on the Princes Trust. Believe me you need to know as much as you can about the service as they asked me about the culture of the service and other things to do within the organisation. Finally it came down to the medical which I was worried about as I have a past of anxiety and asthma a while ago but I’d visited my doctors before hand and had written recommendations which at the medical were enough for me to be signed off. If you have any problems you’re worried about at the medical then get ahead of it! See your doctor and find out what you can be doing about it and you should be okay. So now the real journey begins! September 10th my course begins and I’m counting down the days. Good luck to anyone trying to join and well done to anyone that’s made it! If anyone has any questions about the process feel free to ask on here or drop me a message. Once again THANK YOU! 7 1 2

Daniel. Posted July 31, 2018 Author Posted July 31, 2018 @JonesMrJones thanks mate! I’ve been following your journey on instagram and it looks great
JonesMrJones Posted July 31, 2018 Posted July 31, 2018 @Daniel. if they let you do the same it’s well worth it. I’ve kept a go pro in my pocket the whole time. The other recruits loved seeing the photos and during our pass out they made all of them into a video for our friends and families. 1
Carl Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Well done Daniel. Im sure I will see you along the way somewhere. If you see me, make yourself known and introduce yourself as I am hopeless with names. Again, hard work and being pro-active on the forum is the way to be successful, so enjoy your course, you have earned it. 1

Daniel. Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 @Carl yeah I will when I see you! To be honest I’m absolutely loving it we’re just going into our technical weeks starting with trauma so I’m thinking it’s going to be quite intense academically but I’m definitely looking forward to it.
